My Experiences Working for a Superapp Company as an Engineering Manager
One year ago, I decided to embark on a new journey with The Leading Everyday Everything Apps in Southeast Asia, Grab. Previously working at an e-commerce company, I decided to join Grab as a part of their Engineering team because I want to be a part of those that bring change to Southeast Asia
Apart from that, I’m a part of Indonesian developer community member and has been recognized by Google as Developer Expert for Indonesia, which bring a mission to moving forward Indonesian Software Developer
For the past one year, I have been developing features for Grab Merchant. Grab Merchant itself is a platform that is designed for Grab’s partners to sell their products and promote their business. Those features that I developed with the team include Grab Academy, which helps Grab’s partners with their onboarding process (both online and offline). In Grab Academy, we also help sellers on how they can expand their business, give tips to make their products more attractive to customers, and so on. We also created a supporting system for them to help with any problems that they might encounter
I have enjoyed the past one year working with Grab. Joining the team during the pandemic, it was not an easy start. I have only met My colleagues twice. However, both the team and Grab have been very supportive and helpful. I was kinda surprised that Grab really cares about their Employees’s mental health. They even prepared some programs that focused on their employee’s mental health
For My day-to-day activities, I usually wake up at 7 or 8 am. To be honest, I think I am a workaholic guy, so the first thing I do every time I wake up is to check My email, and review the work that I did on the previous day. After that, I have breakfast and play along with My kids. I am glad that I can work from home, so that I can spend more time with My family
Typically, I will continue to work around 9 or 10 am. Sometimes there are morning meetings around 10 or 11 am. The meeting is usually about alignment both with My team or other teams. I don’t usually eat during lunch time, so I spend My lunch break entertaining myself by watching movies on Netflix, Disney+ or HBO (I’d love to watch both MCU or DCU movies) 😄. After lunch break, I continue My work and after that I usually have a one-on-one meeting with My team members
I am glad that everyone I know on Grab is really appreciative of the time. Meetings usually end after 1 or 2 hours. I’ve read somewhere that meetings that are more than 2 hours are not effective and exhausting. After I’m done with all the work, which is usually around 4 or 6 pm, I spend some time going out with My family to watch movies in the theater or have dinner with them outside. At night around 9 pm , I try to make time to do sports activities. After working for Grab I realized that I need to maintain a healthy lifestyle. After all, health is number one
I can say that I really have a good work-life balance. I may look like I have a lot of free time, but I think it is because when I’m working, I will be 100% focused on My work. I am glad that the place that I worked at is really flexible when it comes to working schedules. I truly recommend anyone to try to apply to any job positions on Grab.
